Causes & Cocktails Launching In-person, Focused on Homelessness
Arlington, VA – Volunteer Arlington is excited to announce the re-launch of their Causes & Cocktails event series for young professionals.
Causes & Cocktails is an event series focused on bringing together civic-minded Arlington-area young professionals to connect and learn about how they can support causes that are important to them. After much anticipation, the event is re-launching as an in-person happy hour at the Commentary, inside the Westin Arlington Gateway Hotel in Ballston. The event on November 1 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. will focus on homelessness.
“Volunteer Arlington is excited to bring this event to the young professional community in Arlington, VA,” said Lisa Fikes, President & CEO of the Leadership Center for Excellence. “Connecting and developing local community members as they seek their civic engagement passions is an important part of our mission. We look forward to creating a space where young professionals can gather and connect as they listen and learn about systemic challenges in our community and the variety of ways they can use their gifts and talents to make a positive community impact.”
Local organizations combating homelessness will share details about their mission and ways young professionals can get involved. This includes Bridges to Independence, CRi, Doorways, PathForward, and Recovery Program Solutions of Virginia.
The event is free to attend, but attendees are asked to register in advance at volunteer.leadercenter.org/causes-and-cocktails.
The Commentary is generously donating 20% of the proceeds of drink sales during the event to support the featured nonprofits. Just by attending the event and purchasing drinks, young professionals can make a positive impact in their community.
After intending to launch in person in April 2020, the Causes & Cocktails event series pivoted to virtual at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The inaugural events focused on urgent community needs including health care, food insecurity, and emergency financial assistance. These events provide an opportunity for young professionals to gather and learn about the issues facing the community and the ways that they can get involved and be part of solutions.
